Founder Emery Miller was born with Congenital Heart Defects, undergoing four open-heart surgeries before the age of seven. Having experienced the reality of calling the hospital a second home, Emery had a simple Christmas wish of wanting to pay it forward and donate one teddy bear to a sick child. This Christmas wish has transformed into an organization located in 14 states and has impacted nearly 75,000 families since 2011.
As a teacher, Team Emery has always represented the powerful impact that young people can have on the community around them. The fact that this amazing organization was created after a fifth grader decided to rally his community to provide teddy bears that would serve as hope and love to children at Christmas time is beyond incredible. To me, Team Emery represents the amazing ripple effect and how impactful it can be for families in need of hope, faith, courage and love.
